Device Requirements

Check the phones, tablets, computers, and browsers that can run ChoirMate

On this page

  • Mobile operating systems
  • Internet and device storage
  • Browsers and screen size
  • Optional hardware and permissions
  • If the app cannot be installed or updated

ChoirMate is available as a mobile app for iPhone, iPad, and Android, and as a web app for modern browsers. Some capabilities depend on the platform, device hardware, permissions, and subscription.

Mobile operating systems

The current app build supports:

  • iPhone and iPad: iOS or iPadOS 15.6 or later
  • Android phones and tablets: Android 8.0 or later

ChoirMate can require a later operating-system version for a particular release when an older version is no longer safe or reliable. If that happens, the app explains the required version. The App Store or Google Play listing on your device is the final check for whether the current release can be installed.

Info

A device can meet the minimum version and still perform poorly if it has very little free storage or memory. Keep the operating system and ChoirMate updated.

Internet and device storage

An internet connection is required to sign in, synchronize choir changes, receive messages and events, stream content that has not been downloaded, upload files, and use ChoirMate on the web.

With eligible paid access, the mobile app can play audio and open sheet music that was prepared on the device beforehand. The web app does not work offline.

Keep enough free device storage for:

  • the ChoirMate app and updates
  • temporary files used while uploading or exporting
  • cached audio and sheet music prepared for offline use
  • photos, recordings, or files selected from the device

ChoirMate does not require one fixed amount of free space because usage depends on the content you open and download.

Browsers and screen size

Use web.choirmate.com in a current version of Chrome, Safari, Firefox, or Microsoft Edge. JavaScript, cookies, and local site storage must be available for sign-in and normal operation.

A laptop or desktop screen is recommended for editing repertoire, uploading several files, comparing member data, or completing other detailed administration. The main web app adapts to smaller screens, but some complex tools require more room and are easier to use at a desktop width.

Browser extensions, strict privacy settings, VPNs, and managed work or school networks can block sign-in, audio, uploads, or other services. If a page fails in the normal browser window, test a private window or another network.

Optional hardware and permissions

Most ChoirMate features do not need special hardware beyond audio output. The app asks for permission only when a related feature needs it:

  • Microphone for recording audio
  • Notifications for alerts and messages
  • Calendar for native calendar synchronization
  • Photos or files when selecting media and documents

CarPlay and Android Auto require a compatible vehicle system and phone. Some sheet-music shortcuts can also use an external keyboard or Bluetooth page-turning pedal, but neither is required.

If a permission was denied, open the device settings for ChoirMate and enable it before trying the feature again.

If the app cannot be installed or updated

  1. Check the operating-system version and install available system updates.
  2. Check the App Store or Google Play for the current ChoirMate requirement.
  3. Free device storage, restart the device, and try the update again.
  4. If the device cannot run the current mobile app, use ChoirMate on a supported computer browser where possible.

On iPhone or iPad, find the OS version under Settings, General, About. Android wording varies, but the version is usually under Settings, About phone or About tablet.
