CarPlay and Android Auto

Listen to ChoirMate practice audio through your car

On this page

  • Connect your phone
  • Apple CarPlay
  • Android Auto
  • Browse practice audio
  • Choose a voice part
  • Control playback
  • Use repeat part
  • Switch choirs
  • If ChoirMate is missing or empty

ChoirMate works with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The vehicle interface gives you a simpler way to find choir recordings, start a queue, and control playback while your phone remains connected.

Warning

Set up your music before you drive. Use steering-wheel controls or voice control where available, and only browse or change settings while parked or with help from a passenger.

Connect your phone

Before connecting, install the current version of ChoirMate, sign in, and select the choir you want to hear.

Apple CarPlay

Connect your iPhone by USB or wirelessly, depending on what your car supports. Open ChoirMate from the CarPlay app screen.

Android Auto

Connect your Android phone by USB or wirelessly, depending on your car. Open ChoirMate from the Android Auto app launcher.

The vehicle interface uses the choir currently selected in the mobile app. If you switch choirs on your phone, the available lists and recordings are refreshed in the car.

Browse practice audio

The vehicle interface has two main areas:

  • Practice contains My Practice Lists and Group Practice Lists.
  • Track Lists contains the choir's available set lists and recordings. Previous Concerts also appears when the choir has listen-only concert recordings.

Open a list to see its recordings. Choose Play All to start at the beginning, or select an item to start from that point. The remaining recordings become the active queue.

Individual practice lists require Premium access and must be created in the ChoirMate mobile app first. The vehicle interface can play existing lists, but it does not create or edit them.

Choose a voice part

When a group practice list or song has recordings for more than one voice part, use the voice-part control in the vehicle interface. It starts with the part selected in your ChoirMate profile and filters the recordings shown for the current list or song.

If the recording you expect is missing, check the voice part and confirm that the file is included in the choir's practice list.

Control playback

The controls shown depend on CarPlay, Android Auto, and your car. The current ChoirMate integration supports:

  • play and pause
  • previous and next recording
  • seeking within the current recording
  • repeat off, repeat queue, and repeat current recording
  • repeat part for practising a selected passage

Playback-speed adjustment is not currently exposed in the vehicle interface. Use the ChoirMate app while parked if you need to change it.

Use repeat part

Open repeat-part mode from the Now Playing controls. Set the start marker when playback reaches the beginning of the passage, then set the end marker at its end. ChoirMate repeats the selected range until you clear it or leave repeat-part mode.

On CarPlay, an active marker can also be moved in five-second steps. The exact button arrangement can vary with the car's screen.

For the full mobile workflow, see Repeat Part Mode.

Switch choirs

Select the choir you want in the ChoirMate mobile app. CarPlay and Android Auto refresh their content when the active choir changes. If an old list remains visible, disconnect and reconnect the phone.

If ChoirMate is missing or empty

Check that:

  • ChoirMate is installed and you are signed in on the phone
  • you have selected a choir in the mobile app
  • CarPlay or Android Auto is enabled for the phone and vehicle
  • ChoirMate is allowed in the CarPlay or Android Auto app list
  • the USB cable or wireless connection is working
  • the selected choir has audio in a set list, group practice list, individual practice list, or previous concert that you can access

Open ChoirMate on the phone once after installing an update, then reconnect. If needed, restart the phone and the car's media system.
